By Jim Boyce | Sumiao Hunan Kitchen is back for World Baijiu Day—this time with a hot new dish. Customers at this Cambridge, Massachusetts restaurant can mow down on Sizzling Baijiu Shrimp from August 6 to August 12.
This dish is prepped table-side on a sizzling hot plate that is loaded with shrimp, splashed with baijiu and oil, and then covered. Expect plenty of wafting baijiu fragrance if the video below is any indication!
The shrimp go into hiding for about 50 seconds. Once uncovered, they get drizzled with a mix of soy sauce, scallions, and red and green peppers.
Sizzling Baijiu Shrimp is $30 per serving. Consider trying it with some of Sumiao’s baijiu options. Currently listed are HKB and Jiannanchun by the glass; Moutai, Wuliangye and Luzhou Laojiao by the bottle; and a trio of baijiu cocktails, including Perpetual Motion, with HKB, blood orange puree, muddled mint and lime, and elderflower liqueur.
Thank you to Lindsay Rotondi for the photos. And to Richard Auffery for putting World Baijiu Day in contact with Sumiao Hunan Kitchen. Check out my Q&A with Auffrey here.
