Get ready for the global ganbei! We just passed the one-month countdown for the seventh annual World Baijiu Day and things are steadily coming together for this August 9 event. Like last year, partner bars and restaurants in some cities may not be able to participate due to COVID-19–we are waiting and crossing our fingers for those. Of course, safety comes first.
Given World Baijiu Day (WBD) falls on a Monday this year, some people plan to crack open those bottles and get into the spirit the weekend before. All good!
This year also sees several partners from the first WBD in 2015 with plans to join. Those includes Peking Tavern in Los Angeles, Vinn distillery and Danwei restaurant in Portland, Golden Monkey in Melbourne, and Taizi Spirit and Pop-Up Beijing in Christchurch.
It was sad to hear one of the original WBD partners, R&D in Taipei, closed this past year. We wish the co-founder the best for his new project in New York and are happy that several alumni from that bar, including at Imbibe and Sigma, will carry on the spirt in Taipei.
We also have confirmations from friends in Minneapolis, Dublin, Reykjavik, Hamburg and Boston / Cambridge–where Sumiao Hunan Kitchen will feature a ‘peppermelon’ cocktail with baijiu, watermelon and black pepper–among others.
And here in China, plans are underway for events in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Yantai and more.
I’m aiming to get the first events list up by July 16. If you are interested in joining us, please get in touch at via spirit (at) worldbaijiuday.com. You can also follow World Baijiu Day on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
