Baijiu Cocktail Week | Annual event launches in London, Liverpool tomorrow

By Jim Boyce | London and Liverpool friends, the fourth Baijiu Cocktail Week—actually more than two weeks this year—starts Friday and runs until February 12. A dozen partners are involved, including dedicated Liverpool baijiu bar FU and London venues Bo Drake, Chinese Cricket Club, Chinese Laundry Room, The Courtesan, Demon, Wise & Partners, The Hide, Heliot Bar at The Hippodrome, Mr Foggs, Opium Chinatown, Ping Pong and Voltaire.

Several concoctions play on a Year of the Rooster theme, including Demon & Wise’s  Red Rooster, with Moutai, rye, sea salt, redcurrant syrup, lemon, egg white and berries (see image below). The Courtesan is offering Dream of the Red Chamber, with Moutai, cherry liqueurs, blood orange tea and liqueurs, and alchermes, yet another liqueur, this one from Italy and with an interesting background. Opium has the less exotic Hong Kong Spring Punch, with Moutai, lychee, raspberry, lemongrass, Champagne and citrus.

If you’ve noticed a lot of Moutai mentions it’s because that producer is the main sponsor, along with support from Seewoo specialty supermarkets. Check out the cocktail recipes here and find addresses and maps for each venue here.
