By Jim Boyce | Shoppers at Harrod’s in London could try a new chocolate treat earlier this year, courtesy of baijiu maker Fenjiu. The Shanxi-based producer teamed up with chocolatier William Curley for the project, in which fenjiu and chocolate ganache was covered in hard dark chocolate and decorated with gold accents. See here for more details and here for a pretty boring video.
The project also included huge Fenjiu displays at a pair of the store’s elevators. Fenjiu is handled by trading company Cheng International in the UK.
Others have also experimented with baijiu and chocolate, including for World Baijiu Day. In 2015, DoubleTree By Hilton made white Valrhona chocolate balls with ginseng-infused Sichuan baijiu part of its party. The next year, the hotel featured a white chocolate roll with erguotou and a dark chocolate and Wuliangye concoction.
That same year, Good Works mixed Moutai, chocolate sauce and coffee as part of a fundraiser and World Baijiu Day event at Pop-Up Beijing.
Founded in 2015, World Baijiu Day is held each August 9, with events in over 60 cities so far. Follow WBD on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. And get in touch via spirit (at) worldbaijiuday.com.
